Baby naps in summer: what about them?

Summer has arrived, and with it, vacations, plans away from home, and a change of routine, and this is where we ask ourselves: what happens with baby schedules and naps in summer? How do we manage it?

It is true that it can sometimes be complicated, but we must bear in mind that it is important that we continue to maintain their routines, as much as possible, so that their sleep windows do not get out of sync.

We know it's hard for our little ones' routines not to be planned according to our plans, but we must try to adapt to their needs. It's okay if they sleep fewer naps than they should one day, as long as it doesn't become a habit!

Reorganizing their nap routines in summer: how do we do it?

Watch for signs of tiredness

First, it's important to know how to identify possible signs of tiredness in our little ones. If, among other things, they seem too tired or irritable, rub their eyes, or are restless, it's very likely that their daytime sleep has been disrupted. We can all get caught off guard, but we shouldn't let too much time pass before regulating their naps again, as it will be much harder for them to fall asleep.

The importance of creating a habit

After feeling out and observing the little one's needs, we can start programming schedules and routines that benefit them in summer to prevent their sleep windows from getting out of sync.

Regarding the nap spot, you can adapt to the environment you are in at naptime. For example, occasionally, your little marmot can take a nap in the stroller, as long as it's a comfortable space for them.

For this, we recommend that you get the bassinet anti-reflux mattress, the fitted sheet and the anti-roll pillow, so that they have their own cozy space inside the stroller: they'll be super comfortable!

Plan the day based on their needs

Once we have determined their schedules, we can start planning the day for the rest of the family: for example, if their nap is around 5 PM, we'll know it's better to avoid being at an amusement park around that time. Ultimately, it's about finding calm and pleasant environments during their nap times.

Tips for adapting naps to summer

  • First, it's important that, even if you try to adapt their nap schedules, they don't get to the point of feeling very tired and irritable. Pay attention to the signs of tiredness!
  • If your little one easily falls asleep in the car, you can take advantage of those moments to travel when it's nap time.
  • As we mentioned before, you can use other spaces, such as the stroller, for some naps occasionally. However, it must always be a comfortable space for them!
  • If they don't want to nap but it's time, we recommend trying low-stimulation activities with them: this way, it will be easier for them to fall asleep.

What did you think of this post? Have you got an idea of how to adapt your little one's naps in summer? We'd love to hear from you!
