Daylight Saving Time and Little Ones
Next Sunday, March 28, we'll be changing the clocks forward for Daylight Saving Time. If we're not prepared, the time change can make little ones more irritable. Are you prepared at home? Do you know the best tricks so your baby won't notice the change and won't be affected by losing an hour of sleep?
In today's post, we'll tell you our best tricks: even with an hour less of sleep, our little ones still sleep like logs!
How does Daylight Saving Time affect babies?
It might seem like setting the clock forward an hour doesn't affect them much, but that's far from the truth. As we know, babies' sleep is very important, and when we change the time, we are altering our little ones' sleep cycle. How important it is to be aware of our little ones' sleep cues!
All symptoms originate from the intensity of daylight, and little ones are the most affected. This hour forward comes with some discomfort in their bodies: losing an hour of sleep, disrupting the next day's feeding routines, and creating a slight imbalance.
How to deal with Daylight Saving Time?
To prevent children from lacking sleep, it's advisable to prepare them gradually a few days in advance: ideally, put them to bed 10-15 minutes earlier and wake them up 10 minutes earlier than usual. This way, their bodies will gradually adjust and won't notice the time change. For example, for a baby who usually goes to bed at 8:00 PM, we need to try to put them to bed 10-15 minutes earlier each day to get them to fall asleep very early on Saturday (around 7:00 PM). This way, we will have changed their sleep time without affecting them.
It is very important to take care of our little ones' sleep, especially when we alter their routines. For us, the best way to provide them with the rest they need is by cradling them in our Co-sleeper Nest: for these types of occasions, we recommend it more than ever!
Additionally, for that same morning, we also advise preparing a delicious and vitamin-rich breakfast for them to regain energy and start the day right. Every year they look forward to this day... How they enjoy their special breakfasts!
