Sleeveless or long-sleeved sleeping bags? With or without legs? Up to what age are baby sleeping bags designed? When do you switch from a sleeping bag to a sleepsuit? In today's post, we answer the most frequently asked questions about baby sleeping bags and bring you a complete guide: keep reading!
Baby sleeping bags: everything you need to know
Baby sleeping bags are one of the safest options for sleeping, as there is no risk of the sheet covering their face. In addition, this way, you ensure that the baby maintains the ideal temperature all night long: you can sleep peacefully!
Sleeping bags or blankets?
Based on our experience as mothers, we are 100% in favor of sleeping bags instead of blankets: little ones can't uncover themselves even if they kick or move a lot, and there's no risk of the sheet ending up on their face: no dangers! Also, to give them complete freedom of movement and allow them to kick and adopt a comfortable position, we design them to be wide at the bottom. This way, they can turn, lift their legs, and even crawl with the bag on.

Another great advantage of sleeping bags is that babies associate them with their sleep routine and a pleasant sleep environment. As soon as you put on their sleeping bag, they'll know it's time for bed!
With or without sleeves? And the legs?

To allow for the option of bundling them up more or less during the colder months, we have designed our winter sleeping bags with removable sleeves that can be easily added or removed.
Thanks to sleeping bags, babies' most sensitive areas, such as their chest and back, are protected from the cold, and we prevent them from uncovering themselves at night: we don't want them to get cold or sick!
How long are baby sleeping bags used for?

Sleeping bags are recommended from birth and are one of the safest options for sleeping.
We have two sizes of sleeping bags: 0 to 6 months and 6 to 18 months. After 18 months, children can switch to our sleepsuits, which are available in sizes from 4-12 months up to 6-8 years. Also, to make diaper changes super easy, in sizes 4-12 months and 1-3 years, the sleepsuits feature a zipper that extends all the way down the leg.
What is the best fabric?
As we know, babies have super delicate skin, and we want the best for them! That's why at Petite Marmotte, we always opt for organic cotton: the fabrics offer maximum softness and comfort, are super breathable and free of toxic and harmful substances, and keep them warm without making them sweat.
What time of year are they for?
This is where the TOG comes into play, which tells us the most suitable thickness of the sleeping bag based on the temperature of the baby's room. At Petite Marmotte, we have sleeping bags with different TOG ratings, as they are designed to be used in both the warm and cold months of the year: they are perfect for any season!
We need to try and find a balance: they shouldn't get cold, but it's also not good for them to overheat! Do you want a guide to help you know how to dress them warmly? Here it is!
In winter, it's ideal to use TOG 2.5 sleeping bags. For mid-season, the best option is TOG 1.5; and for the warmest nights of the year, TOG 0.5.

The TOGs in our sleeping bags and sleepsuits

From sleeping bag to sleepsuit
Our sleepsuits are the continuation of our sleeping bags, and just like them, our sleepsuits with legs are perfect for ensuring our little ones stay covered and don't get cold at night. If you loved the sleeping bags, you'll adore the sleepsuits! We have them available in sizes from 4-12 months, up to 6-8 years.
Differences between sleeping bags and sleepsuits
The sleepsuits are just as comfortable and roomy as the sleeping bags, but they are designed for little ones who are already crawling or standing in their crib or bed. They have some distinguishing features, and that is, in addition to having legs, the feet can be worn in or out, and additionally, the leg length can be adjusted using a system of snaps so they are grow-with-me but they don't trip over them.
Also, just like with sleeping bags, we have them available in different TOGS and they are designed so that they don't need anything else to cover themselves: a fitted sheet, their sleep sack, and they'll sleep soundly!
