Traveling with children this summer is undoubtedly one of the biggest challenges that this exceptional 2020 has prepared for us. This summer will be one that we remember for a long time, and despite the fact that we can now enjoy a certain freedom to move wherever we want, it is clear that we must continue to take precautions to avoid new contagions.
If traveling with children was already a difficult task, it is even more so now in this extraordinary situation. There is no doubt that we all must always take the safety measures that have been repeated to us so many times throughout these months: frequent hand washing, the use of masks, maintaining social distance, etc. But that will not prevent us from enjoying the summer, as we can also have a good vacation without the need to go too far.
Therefore, today we bring you some tips on how to travel with children, what to pack in your suitcase, and how to organize everything so that it goes as smoothly as possible and we don't have any unforeseen events.
What should I pack in my suitcase?
The first thing we have to think about is being practical and only taking what is essential; that is, the things that are part of our children's routine and leaving at home all the things that we don't need.
Co-sleeping nest
One of the things on our must-have list is the Petite Marmotte co-sleeping nest, as it couldn't be any other way.
We always use it at home, but when we're traveling it becomes essential due to its multiple functional uses. The nest provides safe co-sleeping, as it can be placed in the middle of the parents' bed so that we can always keep the baby close. We also ensure that it is free of pillows or blankets that could fall on their face.
On the other hand, the nest's light weight and its bag with a handle make it very easy and comfortable to transport. It's ideal for taking everywhere!
The essentials for traveling with children...
Of course, we must not forget the necessary documentation to have it always at hand just in case, in the event of any inconvenience (for example, health insurance).
And it never hurts to have a small first-aid kit with the essentials: band-aids, thermometer, pain relievers, mosquito bite creams, aftersun, etc. However, always products recommended by your pediatrician.
Last but not least, sunscreen will be one of our greatest allies when it comes to protecting our babies' delicate skin. It is very important to apply high-protection sunscreen with SPF 50+ whether we are going to sunbathe or not.
Even if we are not going to sunbathe directly, in summer UV rays can be very harmful while walking down the street without realizing it (even on cloudy days). So, we must always keep this in mind and apply the cream daily, especially to the little ones.
One of the creams we like the most is the "SPF 50 Mineral screen sunscreen" from the brand Carelia. It is a high-protection product created specifically for babies' delicate skin and suitable for all skin types, even atopic ones.
How do I organize the trip?
Like any other trip, we should plan it in advance if we want to have everything under control, and even more so if we are accompanied by children, of course. It's best to research everything we can about our destination, search online for reviews from families who have been there before, and read tips on interesting activities to do with children there.
Another thing to consider is when we are going on vacation. One of our favorite times is early September, when the school year hasn't started yet and when it's not so hot. Also, there isn't usually as much tourism and, therefore, everything is cheaper. So, if your job allows it, that time is ideal for a short vacation ;)
